According to some reports almost 70% of mothers who learn hypno-birthing techniques need no pain medication during labour and there are many studies that support the theory that hypnosis really works. According to some studies it not only eases pain but reduces anxiety and fear, which is a big help in the sense of relief experienced by a subject.
Courses are attended with the birth partner, who plays an important role. He learns how to facilitate the relaxation and focused state of the mother. They are given preparation exercises to practice at home, as well as cassettes to listen to before and during labour. He will also learn a lot of information about childbirth enabling him to feel calm and relaxed so that the couple can work together to have the most positive experience possible.
Hypno-birthing mothers are encouraged to use active birth positions - including squatting, being on all fours and kneeling.
